Course Background and Objectives

Endometriosis is the most common gynaecological condition seen amongst women presenting to gynaecologists with pain, ovarian cysts and/or infertility.                                                                                                             

To adequately remove the disease requires:

  1. Clear understanding of the different phenotypes of endometriosis
  2. Thorough appreciation of the various anatomical spaces and layers into which endometriosis infiltrates
  3. Precise surgical dissection skills to excise the disease, and when indicated, to perform hysterectomy or remove entrapped ovaries in the presence of bowel adhesions

At the end of the course, participants should have a good understanding of:

  • In depth anatomical understanding of pelvic surgical cases
  • Appropriate selection and application of energy options
  • Mastering laparoscopic suturing techniques to repair ovary, bladder, bowel
  • Systematic approach to pelvic side wall and ureteric dissection
  • Tips on how to minimise ovarian damage in endometrioma cystectomy
  • Nerve-sparing excision techniques in removing deep uterosacral and Pouch of Douglas endometriosis to avoid bladder, bowel, sexual dysfunction
  • Multi-disciplinary approach for management of recto-vaginal and urinary tract endometriosis
  • Principles and techniques of hysterectomy and oophorectomy in severe endometriosis
  • Prevention and management of complications related to complex endometriosis surgery
