Shahrir Kabir

DR SHAHRIR KABIR BSc (Med) MBBS (Hons) FRACS MS (Colorectal)

Dr Shahrir Kabir is a Specialist Colorectal Surgeon with expertise and additional training in minimally invasive management of colorectal conditions.  

He has a special interest in robotic, advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic management of bowel endometriosis, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders.

Dr Kabir graduated from the University of New South Wales Medical Program with Honours. He then undertook specialist training in General Surgery through Royal North Shore and St Vincent’s Hospitals in Sydney and subsequently became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery. Following this, he obtained a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney. He undertook post-training sub-specialisation in Colorectal Surgery through the highly competitive and acclaimed Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand training program at Westmead Hospital, Sydney and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane.

Dr Kabir has trained extensively in the surgical management of colorectal endometriosis across all grades of disease. He focuses on a holistic and tailored approach to patient care in order to achieve the best patient outcome. Dr Kabir currently works collaboratively with a number of specialist gynaecologists.

Dr Kabir participates in regular teaching and education and is a faculty member at the Sydney Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre. He is a strong advocate for clinical research and has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and has presented locally and internationally. He is a reviewer for the Cancer Council’s Understanding Bowel Cancer guide.
