Target Audience

Highly recommended for gynaecologists with a major interest in the care of women with pelvic floor defects in the current medico-legal climate.

Objectives

This Master Class is designed to help participants obtain detailed knowledge of pelvic anatomy and comprehendsive skills in pelvic reconstructive surgery for pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence.

Syllabus

This Master Class covers a comprehensive syllabus which include

  • Pelvic and vaginal anatomy and pelvic florr support
  • Current status pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair
  • Surgical options for POP: vaginal, laparoscopic, abdominal
  • Mesh: classification, selection, indications, applications, benefits and complications
  • Laparoscopic suturing acquisition of skills eseential for laparoscopic reconstructive surgery
  • Priciples and techniques of pelvic floor repair, vault suspension, sacrocolpopexy
  • Priciples and techniques of vaginal sacrocolpopexy, mesh repair
  • Priciples and techniques of incontinence surgery: TOT, TVT, laparoscopic colposuspension
  • Management and prevention of complications related to POP surgery
  • Management and prevention of complications related to the use of mesh in POP surgery

Program Accreditation

This workshop has been designed to help the practicing gynaecologists participate in the RANZCOG Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPD).  Practice Improvement (PI) and Clinical Risk Management (CRM) points are being applied to RANZCOG.

    • To learn dissection skills required for pelvic floor and sidewall dissection

    • To learn to manage vascular and visceral injuries which may occur during pelvic reconstructive surgery
  • Live theatre demonstration
    • To learn the surgical principles of vaginal pelvic reconstruction
    • To learn the surgical principles of laparoscopic pelvic floor repair
    • To learn the surgical principles of mesh application in pelvic floor repair
    • Case presentation and discussion
